Надя Киченок ставит личный рекорд в рейтинге WTA, Цуренко и Свитолина теряют позиции
Украинская теннисистка Надежда Киченок, благодаря своему выходу в финал на 50-тысячнике в Китае, поднялась с 249-й строчки мировой классификации на 213-ю, установив тем самым личный рекорд.
Лучшими среди представительниц нашей страны остаются: Леся Цуренко 85 (-2), Элина Свитолина - 127(-1), Катерина Бондаренко - 136, Юлия Бейгельзимер - 179 (+1), Катерина Козлова -183 (-1) и Марина Заневская (198).
Лучшей среди украинок в прарном разряде остается Ирина Бурячок, поднявшаяся со 103-й позиции на 101-ю.

Цуренко пробилась во второй круг Australian Open
В матче первого круга Australian Open украинка Леся Цуренко в упорной борьбе обыграла россиянку Анастасию Павлюченкову, "посеянную" под 24-м номером - 7:5, 3:6, 7:5.
На счету россиянки два эйса и пять двойных ошибок, а украинская спортсменка шесть раз ошибалась на подаче.
Матч продолжался 2 часа 4 минуты.
Благодаря этой победе Цуренко сократила разрыв в очном противостоянии до счета 1:2.
Следующей соперницей украинки станет еще одна россиянка - Дарья Гаврилова.

Долгополов зачехлил ракетку в первом круге Australian Open
20-я ракетка мира Александр Долгополов не смог преодолеть барьер стартового раунда Australian Open в Мельбурне.
24-летний украинец проиграл 86-й ракетке мира французу Гаэлю Монфису - 7:6(7), 6:7(4), 3:6, 3:6.
В дебюте матча соперники обменялись победами на тай-брейке, после чего Монфис выиграл два сета подряд, за 2 часа 45 минут обеспечив себе выход во второй круг соревнований.
На счету Монфиса 26 эйсов и 56 "виннеров", а также 16 двойных и 57 невынужденных ошибок.
Долгополов 7 раз подавал навылет, совершил 5 двойных и 55 невынужденных ошибок, набрав при этом 46 активно выигранных очков. Это была первая встреча теннисистов между собой.
Во втором круге турнира Монфису предстоит сыграть против Йен-Суна Лю с Тайваня, который, в свою очередь, победил испанского теннисиста Рубена Рамиреса-Идальго.

Федерер с огромным трудом пробился в полуфинал Australian Open
Швейцарец Роджер Федерер переиграл Жо-Уилфрида Тсонга из Франции в четвертьфинале Открытого чемпионата Австралии за 3 часа и 34 минуты.
Для этого второй ракетке турнира потребовались все пять сетов.
В полуфинале он сыграет с британцем Энди Маррэем, который имеет третий номер "посева" на Australian Open.

Williams sets up Azarenka finale
Newly crowned world number one downs Sharapova to reach Qatar Open final as Azarenka breezes past Radwanska.

A day after securing the No. 1 ranking, Serena Williams downed Maria Sharapova for a 10th straight time 6-3, 6-2 to reach the Qatar Open final on Saturday.
Williams faces Victoria Azarenka, whom she will replace at the top in Monday's new rankings update.
Azarenka beat Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3, 6-3 in the other semi-final, earning her 13th straight victory in 2013.
Head-to-head
While Azarenka has been on a roll, she doesn't have a good record against Williams. The American was up 11-1 in their head-to-heads, including winning their last nine matches.
However, both players dismissed the lopsided record, with Williams insisting she won't have any psychological advantage.
"You have to go in with a new spirit and, you know, it's a new day,'' she said.
"The slate is wiped clean to me.''
Williams, who had been inconsistent for much of the week and struggled with her first serve, looked her old self at Sharapova's expense. The third-ranked Russian had no answer for Williams' first or even second serve, which resulted in six aces and 78 per cent of first-service points won.
A double fault from Sharapova gave Williams the only break of the first set at 4-2. She consolidated the break with a love service game and closed out the set with two aces.
Sharapova came out stronger in the second and had a chance to go up 2-0.
But Williams saved the break point and broke to go up 2-1. Williams broke again to make it 5-2.
Serving for the match, she tightened up but saved a break point and prevailed when Sharapova hit a crosscourt forehand wide.
"Definitely the best I played. I had to play better,'' Williams said.
"I'm playing a player that's very consistent, doesn't lose often, just usually in finals and semis. So I had to be on my game today.''
Williams said securing the No. 1 spot, and becoming the oldest player at 31 to earn the honour, in her quarterfinal victory against Petra Kvitova helped relieve some stress.
"I definitely think it took pressure off,'' she said. "But, you know, you still have to stay in it.''
Sharapova blamed her failure to return well for the loss.
"I mean, in the first few games it was close. I thought I had a few opportunities in her service games, love 15, love 30, 15-30, and I didn't use that to my advantage,'' Sharapova said.
"Against someone like Serena who is a great server in those situations, if you don't use them, don't put pressure on your opponent, you know, they gain a little bit of confidence and go for a little bit bigger first serves, getting a few more free points.''
Dominant performance
Azarenka maintained a similar dominance over Agnieszka whom she has beaten in 12 of their last 15 meetings. She hasn't lost to the fourth-ranked Pole in almost two years.
Both players struggled to hold serve in the early stages, but Azarenka took control after breaking for 3-2 in the first set. She ran off eight of nine games, taking a set and 3-0 lead.
Down 4-1, Radwanska became more aggressive, making several forays to the net that allowed her to close the gap to 4-2.
For a moment, there was a sense the Pole could stage another comeback as she did in the quarterfinals against Caroline Wozniacki.
Radwanska did make it 30-all in the eighth game, but Azarenka proved too strong, combining great net play and a potent backhand to end the Pole's threat.
To win her second consecutive Qatar tournament, Azarenka admitted she will have to cut down on errors. She had 35 winners against Radwanska but also 28 unforced errors.
Win or lose on Sunday, Azarenka will swap places with Williams in the rankings, a prospect that didn't seem to bother the Belarusian. She spent 19 weeks at No. 1 in 2012 after winning her first Australian Open, gave up the top spot to Sharapova for four weeks and has been there since Wimbledon.
"It's so out of my hands,'' she said.
"I have been playing really well, I have been really consistent, I haven't lost a match yet, so why should I be frustrated? For me, it's always important to just win matches, win big tournaments like here, as well. If I'm No. 2 after winning a tournament or whatever, that's what happens.''

Панова проиграла в финале парного разряда турнира в Боготе
Россиянка Александра Панова и чешка Ева Бирнерова (1) не смогли завоевать титул в парном разряде турнира в Боготе. В финале российско-чешский дуэт уступил венгерке Тимя Бабош и Мэнди Минелле из Люксембурга (2) со счётом 4:6, 3:6. Встреча продолжалась 1 час 10 минут.
Для Минеллы этот титул стал первым в карьере, а в активе представительницы Венгрии теперь две победы на соревнованиях WТА-тура в паре.
Панова на данный момент занимает 59-е место в парном рейтинге WТА.

World number six Tomas Berdych on Wednesday overcame jet-lag, an umpire's warning and a difficult first set against tenacious German Tobias Kamke at the Dubai Open before calling for changes to the time limit rule.
Berdych emerged both relieved and frustrated after surviving 7-5, 6-1 against the world number 90, which carried him laboriously into the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The Czech contested the Marseille final 4,800 kilometres away on Sunday and struggled in the first set, saving 12 break points, dropping serve twice and three times being within one blow of being taken to a tie-break.
With Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, his Marseille conqueror, having been similarly jaded during a first round loss to Michael Llodra, there was a distinct sense that Berdych was in danger from multiple pressures.
One of them was the new 25-second time rule, which reduces by five seconds the permitted pause between rallies, and which annoyed Berdych when it was imposed on him during his most difficult moments.
"I don't like it. I'm not a fan of it. I don't see any single reason why to have this rule," he said.
"What could be positive on this? What could work? What could be advantage?"
Too much power
The conventional answer is improving the situation for spectators by speeding up the game, which has on average had only 20 minutes in an hour when there is action.
Berdych, though, was sardonic about his transgressions.
"I get like a six or seven (warnings) in Chennai and then I did not get one in Marseille and now I just get only warning. So I'm improving," he said dryly.
"If you have like 25 (seconds) and he has a bad day, or he doesn't like you, it's 24 and you go"

Berdych's criticisms were directed also towards arbitrary impositions of the rule.
"It should be more clear what's going on, because the referee has so much power on you," he claimed.
"He can do whatever he wants. If you have like 25 (seconds) and he has a bad day, or he doesn't like you, it's 24 and you go.
"I mean, it's so simple. Let's put the clock there and then everybody goes by the clock. Simple as that if they want to go straight."
Berdych also found it hard to continue adapting from indoor courts in Europe to the warm sun and wind in the Gulf. He tried to compensate by focusing hard and tried to take pleasure merely in making it to the last eight.
There he will play the winner of Llodra and Dmitry Tursunov, the wild card entry from Russia.
